A reader handles multiple layers of artistry when they pick up a well published book: Life lived, put into words that articulate story; the resulting vision that interior and cover designers are able to execute; as well, the particular taste of the acquiring editor of record. I am as fascinated by the handling of the number ‘4’ in the pagination of Colorless Tsukuru Tazaki as I am by the friendships the author writes about. The whole object is story.
